  Our mother died earlier this year and we arranged the funeral through Alty and Sons in Blackburn. Whatever services they perform away from the actual day of the funeral, they certainly failed on the day itself. One of their funeral cars broke down and we were faced with the prospect of the staff using jump leads to the hearse. Consider how would that have looked?
  Later at the crematorium, despite have been given clear instructions, Altys managed to play a piece of music from the Disney film Frozen, about as far as possible from what we had planned for our mother, a music teacher.
  Of course the firm apologised, but it was always accompanied by the invoice or a reminder of the invoice.
  I asked them to reduce the bill to reflect the failings in their day’s work and to donate the reduction to charity, which they refused to do on the grounds that it made work for their accountant. We then entered in very unseemly correspondence, which eventually resulted in a small discount (3%).
  We can’t rerun the day, it was like something out of Only Fools and Horses: it will always be marred by the unprofessional conduct of Altys.
